Hamburgers and guitars

Oneshot – 445 words
Ninomiya Kazunari/OC

Ninomiya opens the door to his home, where his girlfriend awaits, most likely cooking something inedible in the kitchen. “Tadaima!” he loudly cries out, and like always, she rushes to him in her rainbow-coloured apron, a wooden spoon with some sort of sauce dripping out from it onto the floor in her right hand, and dark black hair messily tied up in a bun with a ribbon.
“Okaeri!” she grins widely.
Nino carefully takes off his shoes and arranges them in the entrance. He then leans in, closes his eyes, and expects the kiss he always gets from her when he gets home.
Yet instead, what he tastes is what must be the sauce leaking from her spoon.
“Yummy?” she asks, eyes wide with anticipation. He licks his lips.
“…No. Thank God I picked up hamburgers from the konbini,” he replies, grabbing a handful of tissues from the nearest table as he walked past her, and wipes the small pool of disgusting sauce near her feet.
“WHAT? It can’t be that bad…”
You taste it then,” he challenges her, pushing the spoon nearer her. She just pouts, and storms back into the kitchen. In five minutes, she gives up on her cooking, and gives in when Nino hands her a hamburger.
After talking about their day, Nino gets his guitar out of its case, and starts playing the notes to an Arashi song. They always play this game – he wants to know how good she is at recognizing his group’s songs, even those that are pretty old.
“Ah! Typhoon Generation!” she jumps up after getting the answer. He stops playing to clap. She beams, and sits back down to listen to the next round’s notes.
However, Nino just resumes playing Typhoon Generation. He even starts singing the words of the chorus.
“Huh? Next round!” she complains.
His eyebrows furrowed. “You don’t wanna listen to me singing you a song?!” he retorts back.
“Typhoon Generation’s a goodbye song… I don’t wanna listen to you singing break-up songs to me!”
Nino puts away his guitar, and comes closer to her, who was sitting cross-legged on the floor. He pushes his head into her lap, and she stretches her legs on the floor so his head can comfortably rest on her thighs. He closes his eyes, and she tousles his soft fringe.
He sighs after a few minutes. “If I don’t play it for you now, then you’ll never hear me play it.”
“Eh? Why?” she asks, confused. When they started dating, didn’t he promise it would be for forever? He sits up, cups her right cheek, and kisses her gently.
“Because I’ll never break up with you.”
